Adulting 101

Happy New Year! 🎊🎉🎊

As a kid, I was under the impression that adults had things figured out by 25. As an adult, however, I've realized that adults are constantly learning new things, the good adults at least. I haven't figured out much but one thing I did learn, reading is fundamental. It is amazing how well things work/turn out when you read and follow directions. Specifically, I'm referring to recipes but this can generally be applied to every aspect of life. Before you dive into something, read the directions, consider the steps, and then begin. Dinner Plans

Florida winter is in full effect for one night only so it's important that we eat accordingly.
I made some of my city famous crock pot chili tonight for dinner.

It's almost 7pm, the chili is done and I'm eating cookies.

ADULTHOOD. Always a challenge.

Top Songs of 2013

I consulted Rolling Stone's Top 100 Songs of 2013 list and have reformatted it into my own top 10.

Also, because I am overly critical I have included at least one way that I think the song could be improved. I think my criticisms are valid because I was in my middle school band. (and we were so good)

Reason I Love This: It's so stupid that it's funny.
Room for Improvement: Eliminate Migos and just have Drake. His verses are pretty lame.

9.
Lonely Island feat Adam Levine, YOLO

Reason I Love This: I over use the term YOLO when I'm talking to teens.
Room for Improvement: It could have been slightly more exaggerated.

8. TaylorSwift, I Knew You Were Trouble
Reason I Love This: I don't even know why but I love this song.
Room for Improvement: The song should be sung by anyone other than Taylor Swift.

Reason I Love This: Fast rapping is back again!
Room for Improvement: The na na na na part could have been eliminated and we could just focus on the aaaaay aaaaaay part.
Reason I Love This: I love the original song by Marvin Gaye
Room for Improvement: I wish they hadn't sued Marvin Gaye claiming that they didn't use his song. It's not plagiarism if you cite your sources guys!

Reason I Love This: Why should we stop?
Room for Improvement: The song should have been longer :)

Reason I Love This: Similar to Beyonce, I woke up like this. She also continues to steal my sister's dance moves and pass them off as her own which I appreciate. Who wouldn't want to emulate my sister?
Room for Improvement: I wish the music video were in color, lol

Reason I Love This: R. Kelly is underrated and Lady Gaga is my fav. They both sing curse words with perfect pitch. Best collaboration of all time.
Room for Improvement: Lady Gaga undersang. Yes, I made that word up.
Reason I Love This: The Message.
Room for Improvement: MORE TLC!! MORE TLC!!

1.
 Katy Perry, Roar

Reason I Love This: It was love at first sound.
Room for Improvement: This song is PERFECT!

Now it's your turn. What are your favorite songs of 2013?

Happy New Year

Big things are happening in 2014. I'm not exactly sure who they will be happening to but I'm pretty sure that someone, somewhere will have big things happen for them.

When I was in college, (many, many, many years ago) I wrote an impeccably researched paper on the origins and evolution of the dictionary. After consulting with my good friend Noah Webster and his  NYT best-seller, the Dictionary, it looks like

CONVERSATE

is still not a word. If you only remember one thing this year, remember that.

30 for daysss

I've been 30 for about 3 days now and everything is so different!

I'm lying. So far everything is pretty much the same. In my mind, people are going to start taking me seriously. I don't know why I expect other people to take me seriously when I don't even take myself seriously but that's the way it is. (yes that is a Celine Dion quote).

Memory Loss

Part of me thinks that I might have blogged about my memory before but I can't remember. How appropriate.

As I get older there are entire parts of the day that I just can't remember while other parts crystal clear. I can clearly remember the time my (older) sister locked my mom's keys in the car 25 years ago but I can't remember where I put my laptop.

About 20 minutes ago, I spent 5 minutes looking for my laptop so I could blog (about a topic that I have long since forgotten). I looked everywhere, my room, the kitchen, outside on the patio, the garage, my car. . .then I got to my office and looked at my desktop and remembered my laptop is at THE APPLE STORE. Please pray for me.

Jealousy

Jealousy is very, very real. I don't know if there's a psychological reason behind being overcome with jealousy but the logistician in me (hopefully that's a real world) knows it is so, so dumb. It is summer in Florida which means an overwhelming number of my Facebook friends are posting pictures of themselves swimming. Almost every time I see one of these pictures I experience a small moment of jealousy. This is completely illogical for two reasons;

1. I hate swimming
2. I have my own pool (right in the backyard).

So stupid.
